Booterator theme generator for Bootstrap

By admin on December 30th, 2014 in Bootstrap

I’m always looking for ways to improve my workflow and a couple months ago I was looking for a site generator that I could integrate with Bootstrap. The problem I faced was maintaining a really large website and I didn’t want to update tons of templates every time a change was made. Enter Harp.js which is a static site generator built to run on Node.js. Without getting overly technical, Node provides a JavaScript based web server to compile and run your project locally. Harp will also compile a vanilla version of your project that you can then upload to a public web server or distribute to customers.

Basically you need to install Node and then Harp. From there, you can fork my integration that includes Bootstrap on Github. Node has a built in Less compiler so no need to worry about using less.js or a third party Less compiler. From the command line your Less files will be compiled with a simple harp compile command. I’ve also included a base theme and color palette you can use as a starting place.

If you’ve read my book Mastering Bootstrap the structure of the theme will look very familiar to you. I’m actually working on an update to the book which will included detailed instructions on how to get a theme generator environment like this running on your own computer.
